At our Leiden location, the EHS department is responsible for all safety aspects within the company with a main focus on General safety, BHV, Biological safety and Chemical safety and a supporting role for ARBO related topics. To strengthen the team we are looking for an EHS Compliance Specialist. The ideal EHS Compliance Specialist candidate that has a background in law and legal procedures and/or the biological / pharmaceutical industry.

At Batavia, you will join an enthusiastic group of international scientists and technicians that work in a close and collaborative environment. You will be reporting to the Manager EHS.

Your profile
Your responsibilities:
  • ADR / IATA specialist
    • Safety advisor (Veiligheidsadviseur)
    • Dangerous goods specialist
    • Monitor compliance to ADR and IATA guidelines
    • Report to the Dutch authorities on shipment activities where required
  • Dual use specialist: Ensure Batavia complies to the current dual use regulation (EN 2021/821).
    • Implement an internal compliance program according to the requirements defined by The Netherlands.
    • Monitor compliance to the internal compliance program
    • Report to the Dutch authorities where required
  • Ensure Batavia has all required permits and is in compliance to those permits (e.g. WABO, GMO, CITES, dual use)
  • Train Batavia personnel in EHS compliance
  • Lead regulatory / customer audits on EHS topics
  • Assess regulatory breaches during incidents
Your Qualifications:

Your letter of motivation and CV should show that you have:

  • A Master or PhD degree in administrative law, life science, biotechnology, pharmacy or related subject;
  • Relevant experience in a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical industry environment;
  • Affinity with translation from law to shop floor;
  • Experience as BSO / BVF and/or regulatory aspects is favorable;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English both verbal and technical writing skills;
  • At least 2-5 year relevant work experience;
