About the job
We are looking for a Scientist Upstream Processing for our USP department in Leiden, The Netherlands. As a Scientist Upstream Processing, you will be leading a team of up to 6 Technicians. This team works on vaccine development and activities include DNA cloning, upstream process development (both mammalian and microbial), medium development, and clinical manufacturing in our GMP facility. Platforms used for adherent cells are t-flasks, cell stacks, microcarriers and fixed bed bioreactor systems (both commercial and new platforms). For suspension cells, platforms used are shake flasks and Bioreactor systems up to 50 liter.
The Scientist is responsible for the direction of the projects, planning the work, drafting study plans & reports and coaching Technicians. Additionally, the Scientist has a pivotal role in project teams regarding deliverables and interacting with other departments within Batavia Biosciences. Hereto, strong organizational skills are essential and flexibility is a must. The majority of work is executed under BSL2 and BSL3 conditions.
You will join a energetic group of international researchers in a collaborative environment. As part of this group, your personal as well as your scientific growth are encouraged and developed. This position reports to the Associate Director USP and indirect to the Project Manager.
- A Master or PhD degree in life science, biotechnology, pharmacy or related subject;
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with cell culture and viral process development;
- Relevant experience in a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical industry environment involving organizational aspects.
- Experience with different bioreactor systems is highly desirable;
- GMP experience and pharmaceutical technology transfer skills are favorable;
- Good command of the English language (written and spoken).
