Batavia Biosciences collaborates with the group of prof. dr. Frank Staal at LUMC on developing new packaging cell lines for lentiviral vector productions for the field of gene therapy. As part of this collaboration a review article is published in the scientific journal Cells, giving the latest insights about the ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic stem cells for therapeutic purposes. Expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) for therapeutic purposes has been a “holy grail” in the field for many years. The article summarizes the latest findings in blood development, the effect of niche and conservative signaling pathways on HSCs in mice and humans, and also advances in ex vivo culturing protocols of human HSCs with cytokines or small molecule compounds.
