We would like to introduce you to our newest team member: kingfisher Alec! Alec is Batavia Biosciences’ official mascot. In this post, we would like to explain how we found Alec.
Why a kingfisher
First, as you know, Batavia Biosciences is headquartered in the Netherlands. The motto of the founder of the Dutch monarchy, Prince Willem van Oranje, was ‘Saevis tranquillus in undis’. This is Latin for ‘calm amid the raging waters’. His motto is visualized by a kingfisher making its nest amongst the waves at sea. As such, the kingfisher is intimately entwined with Dutch history. In addition, we strongly feel that Willem’s motto reflects what we endeavor to be for our clients. We strive to be a stable, innovative, and trustworthy outsourcing partner in a rapidly changing biopharmaceutical landscape.
Also, the kingsfisher is small, quick, energetic, and smart. A matching “big bird” attitude makes this little jewel a perfect mascot for Batavia. We are still relatively new to the CDMO space, but have the desire to make a significant difference in the biopharmaceutical field. Finally, the colors of the kingfisher are a perfect match with the colors of our company.
Why the kingfisher is named Alec
Secondly, we named our mascot Alec, because in ancient Greek history the name meant “protector of people”. Batavia Biosciences is active in the field of vaccines aiming to deliver affordable, effective and safe vaccines to all in need.
We sincerely hope to meet you soon, so that you can take your own Alec home with you!
