We are looking for a Virologist with a strong interest in laboratory safety and BioRisk management, who will have a key role within our Quality and Safety team. Several high profile, international projects are performed within Batavia with the objective to develop or improve vaccines against serious infectious diseases such as polio, measles or Lassa fever. Batavia puts a strong focus on protection of staff and environment in the work with these viruses. Additionally, several infectious disease eradication activities are initiated by the WHO which result in action plans to minimize facility-associated risks. A current example is the Global Action Plan, GAPIII, which is initiated in anticipation of the poliovirus eradication.
As Virologist & BioRisk Officer you are interested in understanding and are able to translate such challenging compliance procedures to daily practices. Hereto, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining policies suited for diverse types of infectious disease agents regarding biosafety and biosecurity up to BSL3 level. In addition, you will be responsible for translating the procedures into appropriate trainings for staff, for performing such trainings, providing guidance in continuous risk assessments and observance of laboratory biosafety and biosecurity procedures.
To be successful as a Virologist & BioRisk Officer it is important that you are knowledgeable in virology and containment procedures, an excellent communicator and reporter, pragmatic and punctual in a hands-on approach. Also, to find solutions for sometimes conflicting interests, while maintaining compliance to the set regulations, resourcefulness is required.
